Response to Data Request Item 68
In August of 2008, CAP staff completed the Hayden-Rhodes Aqueduct Capacity Study. The objective of this study is to evaluate the feasibility and cost of increasing the capacity from 3000 cfs to 3600 cfs while maintaining the same safety and reliability standards of the existing infrastructure.
Expansion of the aqueduct to 3600 cfs is feasible. Expansion will require multiple projects, that include raising of the canal lining, modification or replacement of pumps, modifications to check structures and the expansion or addition of siphons and tunnels.
The total estimated cost for all of these projects is approximately $240 million.
